Selection guide : How to choose a loading ramp ?

 

The transhipment of goods between stores, warehouses, storage areas and transport vehicles often cause numerous problems for both efficacy and safety, both for staff and goods, due to bad or not equipped or non-existent loading docks.

Some advices
 Our loading ramps being designed to last :
  Predicting the future development of your business (pallet truck, forklift capacity 4 to 5 tons)
Too short loading ramp does not correspond to the recommendations of the CRAM (eligible slope) :
- Hand pallet trucks : max slope 4%
- Hand trucks : max slope 5%
- Electric Pallet Truck : max slope 8%
- Forklift truck pente : max slope 10%

  Generally several criteria are needed to select the right loading ramp :


1) What kind of vehicle do we load and unload?

  • Van
  • Truck
  • Container
  • Wagon

2) What type of handling equipment will be used ?
    (Note : Loading ramp capacity = Total weight of the goods + handling equipment weight)

  • Hand truck or carts : 1000 kg : Light dock plates L/8761 à 8770
  • Pallet truck or manual stacker: from 1000 to 1500 kg : L/8761 to L/8784, L8771 to L/8773
  • Electric stacker or pallet truck : from 1000 to 1500 kg : L/8761 to L/8784, L8771 to L/8773
  • Thermic or electric forklift truck : from 4000 to 6000 kg : L/8771 and 73 reinforced, SM, B, FR

3) What is the difference of the maximum level to catch up ?
 (determines the length of the ramp, the more the service range is high, the more the ramp has to be long)

  • Lower than the dock level : loading ramps series L/8761 - L/8771 - L/8773
  • Higher than the dock level : any model
  • Sometimes higher and sometimes lower : mini-levelers and drawbridge levelers
    PAR-8860-8861-PSE-L/8771-L8773

4) What are the frequencies of loading or unloading ?
       (Number of trucks per day and per dock)

5) What budget do we want or do we invest in the equipment ?
Several loading ramps will respond to one or more of these criteria.
